Let Go and Haul: support systems, plateaus, creator invites coming soon 💌
Week 18, 2018 – Brooklyn
Journey: where we’re at
April was a doozy. I may write about this at some point in the future, but tl;dr changes, curveballs, and just a ton of roll-up-my-sleeves-and-get-it-done-or-else kinda work! It was challenging and it was accomplished! We are outta that month!
I was sick for almost all of April which is why these emails have been sparse. I’m finally starting to come out of it. I really hope there is no more illness on Team TRASH 🤧🤒
So what has all the work been about? We’re getting ready to start rolling out exclusive creator invites. If you know anyone who would want one, reply 💌
PSA: we’re getting kicked out of our sweet studio space at the beginning of June. Shit! Worst timing ever. Do you know of a shared space in NYC for up to 10 people that isn’t too $$$? We need it!

Journal: what I learned
With a tough April on the other side of me, I’m feeling extra grateful for my good friends in NYC for being there for me with closeness, support, tickets to brain-scrubbing creative events, film, music and the place of actual scrubs – the spa. I have no idea what I’d do without you. 🙏
One of the first questions I got started doing this founder thing is “how good is your network?” This is a good question! It is true that network is extremely important, but something nobody asked me is “how good is your immediate support system?” These are the kinds of things people don’t talk about. Not having family in this city, let alone this country and being a single person with a fair amount of responsibility, some days it seems difficult just to simply take care of myself. For real! 😅If you’re thinking of starting a company, that’s something I’d add to the list of questions to ask yourself: how good is your immediate support network? Maybe this is obvious, idk!
I have so much respect for all the solo founders out there. Motivation, grit, competitive spirit count for a lot, but support can make such a big difference to get the last 10% done.
On that note, I feel like I’ve hit a bunch of personal plateaus recently in terms of the ways I’m pushing myself to meet my goals. Talking about this with a friend last night, it might just be that I’m hitting limits because of time, and the only way to solve this is to move some things that take time from one bucket to some other bucket. But...let’s see if that is the case :) I’m curious to know what helped you when you had to push through some kind of personal plateau? I’ve felt this before in my career learning the craft of design, code, public speaking. I’ve felt it less – but to some degree with sports, and definitely with rehabilitating injuries. I know that “just keep showing up” is important for me, but I want to know: what are your tips? Or, how did you get through a plateau?
Jams: what I’m into:
If you haven’t seen FKA Twigs’ Cellophane music video yet, you absolutely have to. Must watch. Björk vibes, but different. Probably one of the best videos yet in 2019.
