Journal: what I learned
As always, I learned a ton in the Bay Area and LA and it was invaluable catching up with our investors both places. (For those of you I wasn’t able to catch up with on this whirlwind trip, next time!)
The fresh perspectives I get talking to people in different places help me adjust our strategies, and give us important knowledge about how to continue building and growing the company. I see this kind of travel as part of my job, this communication and information is vital. Building the company out of NYC to start is strategic, but the Bay simply has a more mature tech industry that would be ridiculous to not pay attention to regularly. LA has a creative experimentalism to it that is nothing if not inspiring but definitely important to our music team there, and our eventual creator relations. Of course, this isn’t always as glamorous as it sounds (as I recently posted on my IG). It’s a lot of time alone, you have to be willing to give up your weekends, you’re doing it on a budget, it disrupts routine until you learn how to keep that at a minimum. When I hear about founders or company leaders who don’t like to travel, I’m always like hmm better learn how to get over that…
Super special is getting IRL time with Will our music supervisor, who I always feel so energized and creative after talking to. We’re currently working with a design contractor there as well who is amazing. Maybe we’ll have some design updates to share next week :)
On a personal note, 75° and sunshine was the most special winter treat and I feel like I’ve charged up my batteries enough to make it through February. I hella needed that this week. Multi-stressful deadlines plus a lot of other LIFE in the background made for a week I’m happy to see the other side of, even though it had all sorts of awesome, jeez that was intense. Thank you sun.
On my way back I was starting to think, if sun is all it takes to keep my brain intact over the long New York winter then perhaps I’d better find some more creative ways to fit that in.
